The Best Ways to Learn About Senior Living at Wind Crest

Barbara and Dale made the decision to move to Wind Crest after attending Priority List events and participating in the Live the Life program

Wind Crest, an Erickson Senior Living community in Highlands Ranch, Colo., offers a variety of ways to learn more about its vibrant lifestyle, helping future residents find the perfect community for them.

"Doing your research and finding a senior living option that fits your goals for retirement is crucial," says Sales Manager Meredith Krier. "We want to give people all the information they need to plan ahead."

Dale and Barbara Anderson appreciated the opportunity to explore everything Wind Crest has to offer before they moved to the community last year.

"All the staff were warm, welcoming, genuine, and professional," says Barbara. "They never applied any pressure on us when they were answering our questions about the community. We love it here!"

The personal approach

Having previously helped both sets of parents and a cousin move to senior living, Dale and Barbara understood the importance of researching retirement communities in advance. They explored several communities in the Denver, Colo., area.

"We wanted to live in a community we chose," says Dale.

The couple's longtime friends and neighbors, Roy and Bobbi Siegfried, referred them to Wind Crest, and they scheduled a campus tour with Sales Counselor Sandy Shelpuk. They wanted to know if the community had activities and programs to support their healthy, active lifestyle.

"On our initial campus tour with Sandy, we saw the fitness center and the pool as well as a calendar of exercise classes," says Barbara. "We saw the list of clubs with hiking, golfing, you name it."

Dale adds, "The sales staff arranged for us to have dinner with another couple who shared many of our interests. We were really impressed."

Thanks to the Wind Crest sales team's welcoming approach, the Andersons took the time they needed to feel confident in their decision to move to the community, starting with the very first meeting.

"When you come in for the first time, we want to find out what's important to you and what your priorities are," notes Shelpuk. "Scheduling a personal appointment is a great way to have your questions answered one-on-one."

Priority List perks

Eager to explore the community further, the couple joined Wind Crest's Priority List. In addition to saving their spot in line for a residence, members receive invitations to exclusive events, a chance to book an overnight Live the Life stay, and access to planning and moving support.

Dale and Barbara took full advantage of Wind Crest's offerings. In addition to attending the Priority List Orientation, they attended events including Cocktails and Conversation, the Clubs and Groups Fair, the Priority List Finance Event, and the Embrace Well-Being Fair.

"Our team is well-versed in everything having to do with Wind Crest and can answer any questions future residents have," says Krier. "We're here to provide whatever they need, whenever they need it on their personal timeline!"

The Andersons learned a lot during these events, and they say their Live the Life stay was the most impactful. During their two-night stay in a furnished guest suite on campus, they had the chance to try out the amenities, dine at on-campus restaurants, and chat with more current residents.

"The community is different at night. Our Live the Life stay provided us time to walk around the entire campus and talk to other people," says Dale. "We were here almost two full days. It was so relaxing, and we got a feel for what it would be like to live here."

Continuous support

Even after reserving their new Wind Crest home, Barbara and Dale continued to attend events designed to help prepare them for their upcoming move.

"We had a home visit with Planning and Moving Consultant Katie Aukamp, and she gave us a lot of really good ideas," says Dale. "A couple of times, the sales staff invited us to dinner and concerts, and after dinner, we were able to visit several residents' homes. They were very helpful!"

"Between the events we attended, the meetings and tours we took, and the Life the Life program--the sales team really responded to all of our questions. We are now in a wonderful community, and we already feel a part of it," says Barbara.
