As the leader of the Young People in Recovery Arapahoe County Chapter, I am writing to highlight a pressing issue that affects us all—drug overdose.
In our community, the growing number of overdoses is a crisis that demands urgent attention. One of the most effective tools we have is education—ensuring that individuals and families are aware of the resources available to prevent these tragedies. By fostering open discussions about overdose prevention, and voting for recovery and mental health, we can empower our community to take action and save lives.

At Young People in Recovery, we are committed to providing the support and education necessary for people to thrive in recovery. Our chapter offers free workshops that teach participants how to recognize the signs of an overdose and how to administer naloxone, a life-saving medication that can reverse opioid overdoses. In addition, we are spearheading an educational campaign that spreads awareness about the Colorado Good Samaritan Law. We also host All Recovery Meetings, welcoming individuals on all paths to recovery, as well as allies meetings for those who support loved ones struggling with substance use. These meetings are a cornerstone of our community, offering a safe space for connection, healing, and hope.
I urge all readers to take advantage of these resources. By educating ourselves and spreading awareness, we can make a real difference in preventing overdoses and supporting those in recovery.
