Man Convicted Of Kidnapping 12-Year-Old Girl
Shane Hammond was convicted of the second-degree kidnapping of a Broomfield girl.
BROOMFIELD, CO — Shane Hammond, 29, has been convicted of the second-degree kidnapping of a 12-year-old Broomfield girl, District Attorney Brian Mason announced Monday. A Broomfield jury found Hammond guilty on Friday, after a five-day trial.
The girl was walking home from Westlake Middle School on Aug. 19, 2019, when Hammond pushed her into his truck, according to the District Attorney's office. Though Hammond attempted to drive away, the girl was able to escape the truck and run home.
Over the course of a monthslong investigation by the Broomfield Police Department, which included the use of surveillance video, police identified Hammond as a suspect and arrested him in March 2020, according to the District Attorney's office.

Hammond will be held without bond until his sentencing, scheduled for June 3, 2022, at 8:30 a.m.
"This case represents every child and parent’s worst nightmare," said Brian Mason, District Attorney. "The defendant’s actions were unconscionable and despicable. His actions cannot diminish the bravery of this 12-year-old girl, however. She is an inspiration to our entire community. I am thankful to the Broomfield Police Department for their extraordinary work on this case, our prosecutors and staff for securing a conviction, and the jury for reaching a just verdict."
