New Precinct Maps Approved In Arapahoe County

Arapahoe County's total number of precincts increased from 399 to 409 on Tuesday when new maps were approved.

LITTLETON, CO — The Arapahoe County Board of Commissioners approved new precinct maps on Tuesday.

These maps implement newly drawn boundaries for some precincts and new identification numbers for most, government officials said in a news release. This new approval brings Arapahoe County's total number of precincts up by 10, from 399 to 409.

The new maps will not shift elected official representation for any voters in 2022, the news release said. The location where voters will cast their ballots in the November general elections or June primaries will also stay the same, and school districts and County Commissioner district boundaries will not be changing.

District and precinct maps are re-drawn every 10 years using updated census data, the news release said. This is done to compensate for the fact that precincts cannot have more than 2,000 active voters each. This process occurs after the Colorado Independent Redistricting Commissions draws new Congressional and legislative boundaries — precinct boundaries cannot cross those of the new Congressional and legislative districts.

"I want to commend our IT, mapping and Elections teams for all the thoughtfulness and hard work that went into this project," Joan Lopez, clerk and recorder said. " County voters can be confident these maps were adjusted with the sole purpose of maintaining fairness and transparency in our elections process."
