Teen Charged As An Adult In Shooting Of Cherry Hills Village Cop

CHERRY HILLS VILLAGE, CO – A 17-year-old boy was charged as an adult in the shooting of Cherry Hills Village officer Cory Sack during a robbery Aug. 20.
Angelo Alston, 17, appeared in Arapahoe County District Court on Sept. 6 where he was charged with 32 counts including attempted murder of a peace officer, burglary, assault with a deadly weapon and theft. He is being held in the Arapahoe County Jail on $1 million bond.
Alston was arrested Aug. 31 in Aurora with the help of agents from the U.S. Department of Alcohol Firearms and Tobacco, a news release from the village said.

Around 11 p.m., Aug. 20, officers responded to a hang-up 911 call at an address in the first block of Sedgwick Drive. Officer Cory Sack, a seven-year veteran of the Cherry Hills Village police, encountered two men in the home, who were armed. They exchanged gunfire, and Sack was struck in the leg and heel, police said. He was taken to Swedish Memorial Center.
The family living in the house was able to escape, but two men, described as black males wearing black clothing, fled and were not found.

Since the shooting, Sack has undergone four surgical procedures for the two gunshot wounds he sustained during the incident. "He is in good spirits and is on the way to recovery," the Cherry Hills Village police said.
