Teens Sought For Arapahoe Rescue Patrol Classes

Students in grades 8-12 are invited to open houses to check out this volunteer group that assisted local first responders.

LITTLETON, CO – High school students who want to get a taste of adventure and the activities of local first responders are invited to find out more about joining the Arapahoe Rescue Patrol.

Members of the young-adult volunteer corps assist the South Metro Fire Rescue and serve as the "light duty rescue agency" for the City of Littleton.

The patrol will host three recruiting meetings in March and April for students to find out more. All meetings will be held at South Metro Fire Station 12, 6520 S. Broadway in Littleton:

  • Thursday, March 28, 2019 – 7- 8 p.m.
  • Monday, April 8th, 2019 – 7- 8 p.m.
  • Saturday, April 13th, 2019 – 9 - 10 a.m.

Students who like physical and mental challenges must commit to being "on call" for missions of the patrol any time during the day or night. They must also attend all required monthly meetings and field trainings. Applicants should have sufficient experience in the mountains – either in camping, hiking, scouting, hunting or other outdoor activities, the agency said.

"Our primary purpose is search and rescue, but we also assist our local fire departments and law enforcement agencies by providing scene security details, perimeter control, traffic management, operational help (controlling hose lines, changing air bottles, etc.), evidence searching, and other non-hazardous services," the agency said in a press release.
