West Ranch Fire Reaches 6 Acres Near Ken Caryl Valley

JEFFERSON COUNTY, CO — The West Ranch Fire continues to burn west of Ken Caryl Valley, and reached six acres by Sunday evening. Firefighters have been battling the blaze in steep, dangerous terrain, officials said.

As of Sunday evening, no structures were threatened.

Light snow was falling on the northern edge of the fire Monday morning as firefighters worked to establish a containment line around the fire, the Inter-Canyon Fire Protection District said. The temperature was only 10 degrees on the fire line, the agency said.

The safety of fire crews is the top focus on Monday, fire officials said.

West Metro Fire Rescue was called to the wildfire Sunday afternoon in the foothills of Ken Caryl Valley, where it was burning around four acres, officials said.

The fire then spread through grass and bushland to six acres, the agency said.

At least seven fire agencies were called to help battle the fire.
