With the Rimrock Hotel’s new workforce and possible man camps, he says major upgrades, reservoir expansion, and new water rights are urgently needed. He also worries Nucla and Naturita could become bedroom communities for regional development.

• Girls, guys teams win first tournament (sanmiguelbasinforum.com) — Nucla-area basketball fans can celebrate as the combined Nucla–Norwood girls and boys teams both captured tournament titles at Sangre de Cristo, kicking off their seasons strong. The girls, who began practice in Nucla, dominated three opponents, while the boys also swept their bracket. Coaches and players are already eyeing another undefeated league run and deeper regional success.
   

• Rayborn hopes to help make communities safer (sanmiguelbasinforum.com) — A Nucla High School graduate is helping lead a grassroots effort to make the West End safer by attending court hearings, talking with prosecutors and judges, and connecting neighbors with services. She’s pushing for clearer local crime data, better access to counseling and treatment programs, and more community accountability, all with the goal of supporting both victims and offenders in this rural area.
