1 Connecticut Restaurant Just Landed On Food & Wine’s Top 10 Burger List For 2025

Food & Wine revealed its 2025 best burger spots in America, and a Connecticut classic claimed a spot in the Top 10.

CONNECTICUT — The country's most popular foodie magazine has just published its annual list of America's best burger joints, and one Connecticut standby has made the Top 10.

Louis’ Lunch in New Haven, already cited by the Library of Congress as the home of the hamburger sandwich, pulled in at No. 6 on Food & Wine's 2025 Top Burger Restaurants in the U.S.

Describing Louis' Lunch as "Old School" doesn't even come close to the actual experience.

For starters, the restaurant is one of the oldest family-owned eateries in the country, nurtured since 1895 to this day by four generations of the Lassen family.

Then there's that menu.

"Have it your way?" Hardly.

Louis' Lunch offers one style of burger, "The Original," a special mix of five fresh-ground beef cuts, cooked vertically in original cast-iron grills. But don't go looking for any special sauces or "artisanal" toppings — or even ketchup — to customize your sandwich. Louis keeps everything simple, and for a reason:

"We want you to experience the meat’s true flavor," the owners explain on the menu, "so we serve it on white toast with only cheese, onion, and tomato as garnishes." French fries are nowhere to be found, but reviewers rave about the "best potato salad on the planet," served in cups.

Grab yourself a Foxon Park soda, made in nearby East Haven (with real sugar, naturally) for over 80 years, and you're cooking with vintage gas.

The magazine awarded top burger honors this year to Au Cheval’s "Single Cheeseburger," the Chicago diner-style bar and restaurant's homage to excess, served with pickles, onions, dijonnaise and sharp American cheddar cheese, with optional add-ons like a fried egg or thick-cut bacon.

Food & Wine's Best Burger List was assembled after the magazine polled over 400 chefs, travel experts, food and travel writers, and wine pros for their top culinary travel experiences.
