Yelp said affordable sandwiches are having a moment and are increasingly going gourmet. Here's the best place to get yours in Connecticut.

CONNECTICUT — If you didn’t already know, August is National Sandwich Month. If you want to observe it by chowing down on one of the best handhelds in America, only one sandwich shop in Connecticut got strong enough customer reviews to rank on Yelp's list of the Top 100 Sandwich Shops.

The Dilly Duck Shop at 666 Main Avenue in Norwalk ranked No. 45 on Yelp's inaugural reviews-based list of best sandwich shops.

The shop opened in 2017, and has been cutting the mustard hard ever since. Last year, Yelp named Dilly Duck the best sandwich shop in the state.

Customers like it, too.

"This place absolutely ROCKS. Quirky atmosphere, very like Bend/Portland Oregon vibes…artsy and pleasant. The food was super fresh and we got served by the most charming lady…" a Google Reviews Local Guide gushed.

Another Local Guide was equally enthusiastic and emotive with her Caps Lock key: "This restaurant is EXCELLENT!!! The food and service are outstanding and among the best I've ever had. The Rotisserie Roasted Beef Sandwich, Tomato Cheddar Bisque, and Quiche Of The Day are divine. The staff are exceptionally personable and kind. This place is absolutely a hidden gem."

Rotisserie roasted beef and pork sandwiches appear to be the stars on the Dilly Duck Shop menu, but smoked salmon, falafel, pesto chicken and more choices will make it difficult to order lunch quickly. The sandwich shop also serves breakfast until 10:30 a.m., and 1 p.m. on Saturday.

As of July 31, Dilly Duck holds a 4.8 rating on Yelp, with 309 reviews.

In its inaugural Top 100 Sandwich Shops list, Yelp said affordable sandwiches are having a moment and are increasingly going gourmet. Yelp reviewers “love all the new house-made aiolis, chutneys, pâtés, and sauces these chefs are adding to their creations,” the site. “Diners also give high praise to unique, delicious toppings like pickled vegetables and olive tapenade, as well as the artisanal breads like fresh ciabatta, garlic bread, or pretzel buns.”
