2 Killed In Fiery Crash In Burlington: State Police

The car struck a mailbox and ended up against a tree, state police said.

BURLINGTON, CT — Two people were killed in a single-vehicle fiery crash in the town of Burlington, state police said.

A 2012 Ford Taurus was traveling northbound in the area of 61 Johnnycake Mountain Road at 11:09 p.m. Saturday.

"For an unknown reason, Vehicle #1 veered into the right shoulder, struck a mailbox and came to an uncontrolled final rest against a tree," state police said in an accident summary. "Vehicle #1 caught fire and became fully engulfed. As a result of the collision, Operator #1 and Passenger #1 were pronounced deceased on scene by Burlington Paramedic."

The CT State Police, Collision Analysis Reconstruction Squad responded to assist with the investigation.

The identification of both occupants are pending next of kin notification, state police said. At this time, this case remains open pending further investigation, state police said.
