WATERTOWN, CT — An Army Navy store with over 40 years of history is set to permanently close its doors in Watertown next month, according to media reports.
The Hartford Courant reports Joey's Army Navy Store will close for good April 16 after four decades in business. Owner Kristen Hyduchak said she was "sad" to shut down the store and cited "the cost of overhead combined with competing with online sales" as reasons for the forthcoming closure.
Located at 20 Depot Street in Watertown, the Army and Navy surplus shop sells a wide range of items. The store's website even notes "if we don't have it...we'll get!"

CT Insider reports the store's history dates back 82 years. It first opened out of the back of a station wagon during World War II; the store's original owner would drive to farms and other customers to sell what he could, capitalizing on military surplus.
The original storefront opened in Waterbury but has since moved twice, eventually settling on Depot Street in Watertown for over 30 years. Hyduchak purchased the business in July 2020, according to CT Insider.
