Beloved Connecticut Pizzeria Closes This Week

The Willimantic-based pizza shop has been in business for 30 years.

WILLIMANTIC, CT — After 30 years, Pleasant Pizza, on Pleasant Street in Willimantic, is closing its doors this week, the owners announced on Facebook.

"It is with heavy hearts we are announcing the closing of Pleasant Pizza," the owners wrote. "This is due to rising costs and health issues. We will all be moving on, but we want to thank you all for being loyal customers through this trying year, and thank you all for your support."

The restaurant's last day will be on Tuesday.

In addition to delicious pizza, Pleasant Pizza also catered events and offered outdoor seating at its location.

"We cherish our town and the environment, and love giving back to both!" the owners wrote on the restaurant's website. "We purchase fresh, local ingredients when possible, we use only 100% antibiotic and hormone free poultry products, and Use ONLY 100% non-toxic, biodegradable, & compostable to-go containers."

In 2019, Pleasant Pizza was voted the second-best pizzeria in Connecticut in the Hartford Courant's Pizza Showdown, and third-best in the state in 2023 in WFSB-TV's Pizza Playoffs.

Judging from the dozens of comments accompanying the restaurant's Facebook post, Pleasant Pizza will be missed.

"Pleasant Pizza catered our wedding shower," wrote Catharine Varga. "Sorry to hear this!"

"This is so sad," wrote RJ Nagy. "I grew up with pleasant pizza. Such great memories. Love y’all!"

"Pleasant Pizza has been my go-to pizza place since I was a kid," wrote Nova Lee Hernandez. "Say it ain't so..."
