The Bristol Police Department and City Council announced Iurato had been chosen Tuesday via social media and at the council’s monthly meeting.

In a statement, National Law Enforcement Hall of Fame Founder Megan Stockburger said, “It brings us great joy to highlight the courageous men and women in law enforcement. It is important that we shine a line on a side of law enforcement that we often do not get to hear about. The amount of nominees from over 39 states proves how much this recognition is needed for these officers. We owe them a huge debt of gratitude for standing the line between good and evil on our behalf.”

Iurato is among nine individuals being recognized for different acts of service throughout the country. The inauguration dinner is anticipated to be held March 30 in Toledo, Ohio.

On Oct. 12, 2022, Bristol police officers Lt. Dustin DeMonte, Sgt. Alex Hamzy and Iurato responded to a domestic disturbance call that resulted in an ambush shooting. Both Hamzy and DeMonte died as a result of their injuries. Iurato, while wounded, shot the gunman. Since that time, an outpouring of national support has been focused in Bristol.
