Canterbury Man, Sibling Shot To Death By Brother In NY Hunting Cabin: Police

A Florida resident is accused of killing his two brothers in a cabin in Allen, New York.

CANTERBURY, CT — A local man and his sibling were shot to death by their brother in a hunting cabin in southwestern New York State on Sunday, according to New York State Police.

Police identified the two victims as Mark B. Thompson, 70, of Canterbury, and David E. Thompson, 69, of Port Charlotte, Florida.

On Monday, police arrested the victims’ brother, Scot D. Thompson, 65, of Englewood, Florida, and charged him with two counts of second-degree murder, and two counts of first-degree criminal use of a firearm.

Police said Scot Thompson fatally shot his brothers with a rifle during an altercation.

Troopers responded to a disturbance on Botsford Hollow Road in Allen, New York, in Allegany County, on Nov. 23 around 10:06 p.m.

When they arrived, troopers found two deceased men inside the hunting cabin. According to police, the three brothers had been staying at the cabin together.

“They got into a physical altercation and one of the brothers called 911,” police said.

According to police, after Scot Thompson shot and killed his brothers, he left the scene in David’s vehicle. Police launched a search, and they were able to take the suspect into custody on Monday “without incident.”

Autopsies are scheduled for the two victims at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, New York.

The investigation into the double homicide is ongoing, state police said.
