Champions Crowned In CIAC State High School Tennis Tournaments

Four sites played host to the eight CIAC boys' and girls' tennis championship matches, spread out across the state. When all was said and done, the scoreboards were spread out as well, with a mix of the old guard and some new kids on the block.

No, Donnie Wahlberg was not in attendance, but some excited Suffield High School boosters were on hand at the courts at Conard High School in West Hartford to witness their beloved Wildcats capturing their first-ever title by defeating Northwest Catholic 5-2 for the Class S crown.

Suffield had a chance at a dual celebration, with the girls' team taking on Daniel Hand in the Class M finals across town at Hall High School, but the experienced Tigers won 6-1 to earn their seventh state championship.

Two schools did earn dual championships, with the Greenwich boys and girls winning Class LL, and both squads from Daniel Hand emerging victorious in Class M.

The Greenwich boys and New Canaan girls each recorded their third straight state championship, while the Greenwich girls successfully defended their championship from 2024.

On the other side of the coin, the boys' team from Avon saw its streak of four straight championships end with a 5-2 loss to Daniel Hand in Class M. New Canaan's boys were also seeking their second straight title, and 36th overall, but were turned back 4-3 by Darien in Class L.

Of the eight teams seeded No. 1, only the Greenwich boys took home the top prize.
