Champions Crowned In Class L, Class M Track And Field Championships

NEW BRITAIN, CT — Some familiar names sat atop the leaderboard at the conclusion of Sundays CIAC Class L and Class M track and field championship meets in Veterans Stadium at Willow Brook Park.

The Windsor girls won the Class L for the seventh straight season, compiling 118 points to 83.5 for Naugatuck. Bloomfield's girls captured Class M for the fourth straight time, amassing 156 points to easily outdistance runner-up Sacred Heart Academy's 66.

On the boys' side, Xavier took top honors in Class L for the third straight time with 90 points, edging Windsor's 76. In Class M, Haddam-Killingworth reclaimed the title it had last won in 2021, earning 65 points to 55.5 for Stonington.

Two girls emerged from the Class L meet with rare triple event championships: Lauren Kropo of Naugatuck (100, 200, 400) and Lauren Smith of New Canaan (discus, javelin, shot put). There were seven dual winners throughout the day: Jayson Vanterpool, Bunnell (L - 100, 200), William Gibson, Hillhouse (L - 110 hurdles, 300 hurdles), Marshall Potter, Simsbury (L - discus, shot put), Max DeLaRosa, Stonington (M - 100, 200), Dylan Calsetta, Ellington (M - 110 hurdles, 300 hurdles), Saphyr Brown, Bloomfield (M - 100,200) and D'Asia Duncan, Bloomfield (M - 100 hurdles, 300 hurdles).
