Connecticut Foodshare Urges Residents To Use Statewide Tools To Find Local Food Pantries

As food insecurity rises, Connecticut Foodshare asks residents to use 211 or its website to locate nearby food pantries and mobile sites.

CONNECTICUT — As food insecurity rises across the state, Connecticut Foodshare is reminding residents that its facilities in Bridgeport and Wallingford do not distribute food directly to the public. Instead, the organization is urging people in need to use statewide tools to locate nearby pantries and mobile distribution sites.

Connecticut Foodshare, which partners with hundreds of community food programs, said it is working to ensure those partners are stocked to meet growing demand.

Residents seeking food assistance are encouraged to call 211 or 800-203-1234, or visit 211ct.org to find local pantries and long-term community support.

People can also visit ctfoodshare.org/find-food for an interactive map and listings of mobile food pantry locations. For mobile access, residents can text FOODSHARE to 85511, then enter the first three letters of their town to receive a list of upcoming pantry dates, times, and locations.

“We appreciate your concern and help with this situation,” said Jessica Julius, executive assistant at Connecticut Foodshare. “These resources are the most efficient way to connect people with community-level support.”
