CONNECTICUT — Connecticut drivers who fuel up with gasoline will pay a little more at the pump come Feb. 1. The state will phase in an additional five cents from the partially-suspended gas tax.

Legislation last year established a gradual return of the 25-cent gas tax. Five cents came back on Jan. 1, and another five cents will be added per month until the full tax is back on May 1.

The average cost of a gallon of regular gasoline was $3.36 as of Monday morning, according to AAA. The price is seven cents higher than last week, but 16 cents lower than the same time last year.

Gasoline averaged $3.51 per gallon in the U.S. Monday, which is nine centers higher than last week and 15 cents higher than last year.

“More drivers have hit the road in January because of relatively mild weather throughout much of the nation,” said Fran Mayko, AAA Northeast spokeswoman. “However, the expected return of wintery conditions in February may revive seasonal driving patterns.”
