CT State Police Release Stats For Thanksgiving

Police dealt with thousands of calls for service in recent days during the busiest travel season of the year.

ACROSS CONNECTICUT — Connecticut State Police said earlier this week that they were preparing for one of the busiest Thanksgiving weeks in recent years.

State police have released statistics on how those efforts are going. The following numbers are for 7 a.m. Wednesday to 7 a.m. Friday:

  • Calls for service: 2,592
  • Motorist assists: 137
  • Speeding violations: 50
  • Motor vehicle accidents: 204
  • Infractions for other violations: (including seatbelt, unsafe lane change, following too closely, move over, distracted driving, etc): 152

In 2022, over Thanksgiving weekend, police had 6,569 calls for service; 444 crashes; 265 speeding violations; 41 drunk driving arrests; and four fatalities.

Police said they would be out in full force during the holiday weekend looking for drunk drivers, distracted drivers as well as overly aggressive drivers.

While police didn't indicate any specific traffic checkpoints to weed out the driving scofflaws, they did say they will be out in sufficient numbers to keep roads safe.

They said "countless motor vehicle crashes in Connecticut" are caused by drunk, distracted and aggressive driving and officers are looking to prevent, rather tend to, such incidents.

Police emphasized that drivers should be careful and adhere to all traffic laws over the holiday weekend.
