Long Duration, 'Potent' Storm Forecast Details Released: Here's What To Know
An updated timeline and new details have been released concerning an upcoming "potent" storm, forecasters said.

CONNECTICUT — A "potent storm system" will be impacting our weather for at least the next two days, according to forecasters.
Tuesday begins dry, and some sun will appear too, but after sunset rain showers are forecast to develop across Connecticut, bringing heavy rain and strong wind gusts on Tuesday night and Wednesday and Wednesday night. A wind advisory has been issued statewide as gusts up to 50 mph are possible Wednesday night and Thursday morning.
"Tomorrow, as we’ve been forecasting, will be unsettled and timing/impacts are coming into better focus from a potent storm system," said WFSB 3 TV Chief Meteorologist Mark Dixon with Mike Slifer. "A round of rain is likely through the morning, then we anticipate a lull in the wake of a warm front. It will also be windier, with gusts over 30 mph out of the south/southwest as a cold front approaches.

"We’ve issued a First Alert for tomorrow night. This is when we expect the strongest wind and heaviest rain with the arrival and passage of the cold front (likely before midnight)," Dixon and Slifer said. "It’s in this timeframe wind gusts could reach or exceed 40 mph! Behind the front the wind becomes northwesterly sending colder air our way. As rain ends, it could briefly switch over to light snow as we’ll see temperatures go from near 50 into the 20s." (Watch/read more at WFSB 3 TV).
After the storm ends late Wednesday, cold air moves in and high temperatures will only be in the 30s on Thursday. And now there is a chance for rain on Saturday too.

Eversource officials say they are "closely monitoring several weather forecast models and planning accordingly." The energy company is bringing in outside lineworkers to assist with power restoration. Crews are preparing equipment and vehicles and will be in position in advance of the storm so they can quickly respond when and where needed.
“This storm is expected to bring heavy rain and strong winds which can bring down trees and tree limbs onto power lines and equipment causing outages, so we’re taking the necessary actions now to ensure our team is ready to respond,” said President of Eversource Connecticut Steve Sullivan in a prepared statement. “We’ll have crews in position at our work centers throughout the state before the storm hits so they can immediately get to any damage locations and restore power as soon as conditions allow.”
