Special Weather Statement, Winter Weather Advisory Issued For CT: Here's What To Know

A special weather statement has been issued for Sunday and a winter weather advisory has been issued for most of Connecticut.

A special weather statement has been issued for black ice conditions across Connecticut on Sunday morning, and a winter weather advisory has also been issued for most of the state due to icing concerns Sunday afternoon and evening.

The weather service said temperatures are well below freezing Sunday morning and that "Any existing areas of snowmelt could lead to black ice formation on area roadways, bridges, overpasses, and any untreated surfaces.

"Motorists and pedestrians should use caution. Reduce speed, allow extra time, and be prepared for areas of slippery travel Saturday evening through midday Sunday," according to the weather service.

A round of freezing rain is forecast on Sunday afternoon for the entire state, minus the coastal sections of southern Connecticut. The precipitation there will be plain rain. Everywhere else should see a period of icing before the precipitation changes to plain rain overnight.

Monday will be very warm but also rainy, and then it's back to sub-freezing temperatures for most of the week.
