CT Weather: Severe Thunderstorm Watch Issued Until Midnight

The timeline for severe weather has changed on Wednesday. Here are the new details on when to expect the chance of severe weather.

CONNECTICUT — In a 6:30 p.m. update, the National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for the entire state up until midnight.

Original story: CONNECTICUT — It's becoming more likely that severe weather will be more widespread late Wednesday across the state.

"Today's slight risk of severe thunderstorms has been expanded to cover our entire forecast area. Current indications are that a line of storms will track across this evening, with a damaging wind threat. Scattered storms are also possible, mainly inland late this afternoon," the weather service said in an update.

As always with thunderstorms, some people will get them and some won't. But for those who do get thunderstorms, wind gusts could exceed 58 mph, large hail is possible, and flooding would be a concern too, the weather service said.

"Localized instances of flash flooding cannot be ruled out," the weather service said.

Timeline, impacts of storms

WFSB 3 TV meteorologists said "Isolated development is possible later this PM, though the coverage is expected to increase toward/through the evening hours. Storms look to pop after 5pm, becoming scattered through 9pm, and then widespread from west to east through midnight. Top threat (15% chance) will be for damaging wind gusts, then a threat (5%) for hail, and even a chance (2%) for an isolated tornado. The Storm Prediction Center has recently upgraded Connecticut from a level 1 to a level 2 of out 5 for severe weather. Heavy rain is also a concern as it could lead to isolated poor drainage flooding. Don’t forget about frequent lightning!!!"(Read/watch more at WFSB 3 TV).

It doesn't look like a great weekend weather forecast. Saturday is expected to start off dry, but the chance of rain increases in the afternoon and at night and more rain is forecast on Sunday. Thunderstorms are also possible on Sunday, according to the weather service.
