Timeline For Severe Thunderstorms Changes: Here Are The New Details
The timeline for the chance of severe weather in Connecticut has changed. Here is when we can expect thunderstorms, rain and possibly hail.
CONNECTICUT — The timeline for strong-to-severe thunderstorms across Connecticut has been moved up on Thursday.
It now appears the chance for severe weather could start as early as 9 a.m. and continue up until 3 p.m. As always with thunderstorms, some areas may get them, while others won't.
A severe thunderstorm warning issued prior to 9 a.m. for portions of Fairfield and New Haven counties has since expired. A second warning issued for Fairfield and New Haven counties has also expired as of 10:45 a.m. The warnings were issued due to strong storms, heavy rain and hail, the National Weather Service said. A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for New London County until 11:45 a.m.

"Today is a First Alert Weather Day as thunderstorms could be strong to severe. The time frame of concern is around 9am this morning until about 3 this afternoon," said WFSB 3 TV Chief Meteorologist Mark Dixon with Scot Haney. "Those that develop will be capable of producing heavy rain, lightning, damaging wind gusts, and perhaps hail. The state remains under a marginal (level 1) risk for severe storms from the Storm Prediction Center."
And as for the Memorial Day weekend forecast, Saturday continues to look dry during the day but rain showers are possible at night, Sunday looks dry with a mix of sun and clouds, while Monday looks mostly cloudy with rain showers expected. (Read/watch more at WFSB 3 TV).

Here are the updated forecast details for southern Connecticut via the National Weather Service:
Today: A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms before 11am, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm between 11am and 2pm, then a slight chance of showers after 2pm. Cloudy, with a high near 76. Southwest wind 3 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 80. Calm wind becoming southwest 5 to 8 mph in the afternoon.
Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 75. Northeast wind 5 to 8 mph becoming southeast in the afternoon.
Saturday Night: A 30 percent chance of showers before 2am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 58.
Sunday: Partly sunny, with a high near 77.
Memorial Day: A 40 percent chance of showers after 8am. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 71.

Today: Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly before 1pm. Cloudy, with a high near 86. Southwest wind 6 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
Friday: Sunny, with a high near 84. Calm wind becoming west 5 to 9 mph in the morning.
Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 83. Calm wind becoming southwest 5 to 7 mph in the afternoon.
Saturday Night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 59. South wind around 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
Sunday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 84. South wind 3 to 7 mph.
Memorial Day: A chance of rain after 10am. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 75. Southeast wind 6 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%.
