Severe weather is forecast on Friday in Connecticut. Here are new details and an updated timeline on when to expect the storms.

CONNECTICUT — The National Weather Service said severe thunderstorms are possible on Friday after 2 p.m. on Friday and up until around midnight.

Wind gusts could exceed 58 mph in parts of the state, leading to "scattered power outages," according to the weather service. Also, damaging hail is possible, the weather service said.

"There remains a low chance of localized flash flooding in any stronger storms," the weather service said.

"...if the threat of severe weather increases a Severe Thunderstorm Watch may be needed during the day Friday," the weather service said.

According to WFSB 3 TV meteorologists, "From the late afternoon into the evening hours, there will be an increasing chance for rain and thunderstorms. We’ve issued a *First Alert* as evening/outdoor plans will impacted as storms could be strong, possibly severe. The greatest concern with any storms that move through CT will be heavier rain (leading to nuisance flooding), frequent lightning, and gusty wind. There’s even a chance for some hail. Storms begin across NW CT in the late afternoon, exiting SE CT around 11 p.m. Friday. (Read/watch more at WFSB 3 TV).

Father's Day Weekend Forecast

"Behind tomorrow’s cold front, spectacular weather is on tap for Father’s Day weekend. Both days will be dry and bright, also comfortably warm with low levels of humidity. We’re forecasting lows 55-60, highs between 80 and 85," WFSB 3 TV Meteorologist Mike Slifer said.

Heatwave Next Week

"After what promises to be an amazing weekend, heat returns next week with a gradual uptick in humidity," Slifer said. "We’ll likely be adding to our 90° tally starting Monday (so far in ‘24 we’ve only experienced 90° heat once, back in May when the high was 93 on the 22nd). In fact, we’re forecasting the hottest weather since last September and our 1st heat wave of the year...Monday, highs inland should be near 90 while dew point values remain comfortable. Tuesday is several degrees warmer, also muggier. By Wednesday and Thursday, we’re downright hot and humid. Given the combination of heat and humidity, especially later in the week, we have a First Alert that stretches from Tuesday to Thursday. During the day, it will feel like it’s 95-104! At night, lows will be in the 70s, so it’ll be difficult to get cool even at night."
