Severe Weather Returns To CT's Forecast: Here's When, What To Expect

The National Weather Service has already issued a hazardous weather outlook for four counties in Connecticut. Here are the new details.

CONNECTICUT — An amazing week of weather continues Thursday with more sunshine and comfortable temperatures, and an almost perfect weekend of weather is on tap too.

The weather on Friday features a chance for some severe weather across the state. The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for Litchfield, Hartford, Tolland, and Windham counties for the chance of severe weather, including flooding concerns, strong thunderstorms, hail and potentially damaging wind gusts.

In southern Connecticut, rain showers and thunderstorms are forecast for Friday and Friday night, but the precipitation should end by early Saturday.

"Scattered showers and thunderstorms become likely as we close out the week," said WFSB 3 TV meteorologists..."While it won’t be raining all day, the greatest likelihood for unsettled weather will come during the afternoon/evening hours. We’ve declared an *Alert* for the possibility of an isolated strong to severe storm (damaging wind is the greatest concern). There is also a threat for isolated flooding, based on where the heaviest rain falls. On the Excessive Rain Outlook, most of CT is now under a level 2 risk." (Watch/read more at WFSB 3 TV).

For Hartford, Tolland and Windham counties, the weather service wrote in a hazardous weather outlook, "Showers and thunderstorms returns for Friday and Friday night associated with a cold front. Heavy rainfall possible which may lead to localized flooding. In addition, there is a threat of isolated severe weather across interior southern New England. At this time the threat of flooding and severe weather looks localized and not widespread."


For Litchfield County, the weather service wrote: "There is a Marginal to Slight Risk for severe storms across the area Friday. The threats are large hail and damaging wind gusts. Storms will be capable of producing locally heavy rainfall again on Friday...There is a Marginal Risk across the rest of the area with isolated flash flooding possible."

Today: Mostly sunny, with a high near 82. South wind 6 to 11 mph.

Tonight: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 2am. Partly cloudy, with a low around 67. Southwest wind 9 to 11 mph.

Friday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 2pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 80. Southwest wind 9 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Friday Night: Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 2am, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 66. Southwest wind 6 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Saturday: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 8am. Mostly sunny, with a high near 84. Northwest wind 6 to 8 mph.

Today: Partly sunny, with a high near 82. Light south wind increasing to 5 to 10 mph in the morning. Winds could gust as high as 24 mph.

Tonight: A chance of showers, mainly between 10pm and 4am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 65. South wind 6 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Friday: A chance of showers before 9am, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms between 9am and 10am, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 10am. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 79. South wind 7 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.

Friday Night: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm before midnight, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms between midnight and 2am, then a slight chance of showers after 2am. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Low around 63. South wind 3 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.

Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 83. North wind 6 to 8 mph.

Sunday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 85. North wind 6 to 8 mph.
