CONNECTICUT — The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for most of Connecticut as a quick-moving winter storm will impact the state on Thursday.

No advisories have been issued for the I-95 coastal towns from Greenwich to Stonington but 1–2 inches of snow and mixed precipitation is still forecast here too.

Snow is expected to begin around daybreak Thursday, and the precipitation will transition from snow to sleet to plain rain across Connecticut. The changeover from snow to plain rain is forecast to happen quickest along the coast.

"Initially, we expect snow to develop in a light, scattered nature around the AM commute time," WFSB 3 TV meteorologists said. "As the morning progress, coverage and intensity ramp up, leading to reduced visibility. Our preliminary snowfall forecast is for 2-4″ inland and a coating to 2″ along the immediate shoreline. The totals aren’t bigger given the transition to an icy mix (especially inland) and even a chilly rain (shoreline), from south to north, during the afternoon hours. After the switch, any freezing rain could lead to a light glaze of ice. Fortunately, it will fall atop a layer of snow." (Read more at WFSB 3 TV).

Another storm is forecast for late Saturday and Sunday, and once again snow, sleet and plain rain is forecast. No specifics have been released yet for that storm.
