CT Weather: Storms Possible On 4th Of July, Holiday Weekend

Some major changes to the weather forecast are upcoming during the 4th of July period for Connecticut. Here are the new details.

CONNECTICUT — It looks we'll be hearing some nature-made fireworks on the 4th of July and the upcoming holiday weekend.

The National Weather Service has posted a hazardous weather outlook for Fairfield County on the 4th of July saying there is "potential for a few thunderstorms July 4th afternoon into evening." There is a chance for isolated rain showers on the 4th of July across the state.

The best chance for more widespread thunderstorms is on Saturday afternoon and evening. If you have outdoor weekend plans, it looks like Sunday is your best bet, but it will be very hot with temperatures near 90 degrees. The heat and humidity will be climbing through the holiday weekend.

"Mugginess increases on the 4th. At this point in time, the 4th of July looks partly cloudy with a chance for isolated showers/storms," said WFSB 3 TV meteorologists. "There may be a few in the morning and then again in the evening. Given the isolated coverage, most towns will stay completely dry. Highs will again be in the upper 80s but a few inland towns may touch 90 if we can get enough sunshine. New data suggests scattered rain and storms returning Thursday evening, which could certainly impact evening plans."

"Saturday is the day to watch this weekend. We’ve issued a *First Alert* as showers and storms are expected," WFSB 3 TV meteorologists said. "As it looks now, a warm front will lift north and bring a round of rain and showers in the first half of the day. Then, humidity really ramps up, with dew points in the 70s! It’ll feel tropical out there. In the afternoon and evening, another round of showers and storms will be possible, with big impacts expected to outdoor plans and/or fireworks. Parts of Connecticut are already outlined in the level 1 for excessive rainfall on Saturday. By Sunday, the cold front will be advancing east, shifting our wind to be more westerly. Humidity will be lower but temps stay fairly high, likely around 90 statewide. (Read/watch more at WFSB 3 TV).
