Timeline For Strong Thunderstorms, Hail, Wind, And Rain Released For CT

Thunderstorms, hail, strong wind gusts and heavy rain are all possible on Monday and beyond. Here are the new forecast updates for CT.

CONNECTICUT — It will be an unsettled weather pattern for the next week, and that means there is a chance for rain showers and thunderstorms almost every day in Connecticut.

The National Weather Service said, "Showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop today ahead of an approaching frontal system. Some of the storms could become strong to severe, with a risk for localized flash flooding, mainly this afternoon and evening."

There may be wind gusts in excess of 58 mph and the best chance for that is in southwest Connecticut, according to the weather service. Some areas could see hail too and heavy rain, which could prompt flash flooding concerns. The weather service said the best chance for storms and rain is up until 10 p.m. Monday.

An extended unsettled weather pattern

"A mid-level low across the Midwest slowly shifts eastward this week. This feature will cause a few stray showers to form this morning, and widely scattered areas of showers and storms this afternoon," said WFSB 3 TV meteorologists. "There is a chance for an isolated strong to severe storm capable of producing strong wind gusts, hail, and even localized flooding. If you do get under one of the strong or severe storms, tree and powerline damage will be possible."

"The shower coverage could be on the higher side to start tomorrow morning, then a lull before more showers and storms form tomorrow afternoon," WFSB 3 TV forecasters said. "While a strong to severe storm can’t be ruled out, most should remain below strong to severe limits. It will be muggy with lows in the middle and upper 60s, and highs in the 70s and lower 80s."

"Expect more of the same on Wednesday, as the mid-level low shifts eastward and enhances our chances for rain and storms, both in the morning and afternoon. We’ll see breaks in the action, so don’t expect and all-day rain type of set up."

More afternoon pop-up showers and storms continue on Thursday and Friday. And as for the upcoming July 4th holiday weekend, WFSB 3 TV meteorologists say, "Isolated afternoon showers and storms will be possible the weekend leading up to the Fourth of July. July 3 and 4th, there is a low chance for Mother Nature’s fireworks, and it looks warm and humid as of now." (Watch/read the full WFSB 3 TV weather forecast here).
