CT Woman Struck, Killed While Changing Flat Tire: Police

A woman was killed in a vehicle vs. pedestrian crash Wednesday afternoon.

THOMASTON, CT — A woman was killed when she was struck by a car while she was changing a flat tire, according to a state police report.

An initial investigation found that Karina Marie Lopez, 26, of Torrington, was driving on Route 8 between the Exit 39 on and off ramps in Thomaston when her car had a flat tire around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.

She got out of her car and was attempting to repair the flat tire in the left lane when she was struck by a 2021 Subaru Outback Limited.

Lopez was flown to Hartford Hospital where she was pronounced dead, according to police.

The Subaru's driver was not injured and remained at the scene of the crash.
