Driver Killed In Fiery Crash On Route 8: State Police

THOMASTON, CT — A driver was killed in a fiery crash on Route 8 late Tuesday, according to state police.

Based on preliminary investigation, a black, 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck was traveling in an unknown lane on Route 8 southbound, one mile north of exit 38 in Thomaston, state police said.

"For reasons currently unknown, Vehicle #1 left its lane of travel and struck the wire rope railing, located in the median," state police said in a news release. Vehicle #1 then became fully engulfed on fire. Operator #1 was pronounced deceased on-scene by medical personnel."

Approximately 250 feet of damage to the State of Connecticut, Department of Transportation owned wire rope railing was noted, state police added.

A detailed report regarding this incident will follow at the completion of the Collision Analysis Reconstruction Squad's report (C.A.R.S.) and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner's report (O.C.M.E.), authorities announced.
