Davis' retirement came on the heels of the coronavirus pandemic, for which he said returning to work with all the protocols, and his and his wife's ages, proved too difficult.

During his career, Davis was a fixture at the state Capitol, and won multiple Emmy Awards. In 2004, he broke the news that then Gov. John Rowland was resigning.
