Griswold Man Charged In 2024 Crash That Fatally Injured Unborn Child

The motorist rear-ended a vehicle operated by a pregnant woman, whose baby died after an emergency C-section, police said.

CONNECTICUT — A Griswold man was arrested on a warrant Wednesday for a February 2024 car crash involving a pregnant woman, whose baby later died from its injuries.

Eric Leblanc, 25, of Griswold, was charged with first-degree assault - extreme indifference to human life, traveling unreasonably fast, improper passing/ unsafe distance, operating without minimum insurance, failure to drive at a reasonable distance apart, and two counts of first-degree reckless endangerment.

State police said they encountered Leblanc Wednesday around 4:18 p.m. due to an unrelated motor vehicle accident in Lisbon.

Police on scene realized there was an active state police arrest warrant for Leblanc for a Feb. 26, 2024 car accident on Route 12 in Killingly, police said.

According to police, an investigation determined Leblanc rear-ended a vehicle operated by the pregnant woman.

Because of her injuries, she had to have an emergency C-section to deliver her child, police said. The arrest warrant shows the child suffered bleeding on the brain because of the crash and died on Feb. 28, 2024.

Leblanc is scheduled to appear in Superior Court in Danielson on March 11.
