CONNECTICUT — Hurricane Ian is expected to make landfall in Florida Wednesday afternoon as a powerful category 4 storm and the question on Connecticut residents minds is what, if any, impacts will we receive from this hurricane.

The National Weather Service said Connecticut, especially southern sections, may see some marginal impacts from Ian as soon as this weekend, which would include some rain showers, increasing wind gusts and more clouds than sunshine. Areas in northern Connecticut are forecast to see the least impacts, according to the weather service.

The upcoming weekend doesn't appear to be a washout, and there is expected to be some sunshine, especially on Saturday.

WFSB 3 TV Chief Meteorologist Mark Dixon with Scot Haney said that "Saturday likely starts with some sunshine but becomes cloudier as the day progresses. These clouds will be compliments of Ian, as the storm weakens, moving over the Deep South. It will be seasonal, with highs near 70. Sunday will be cloudy and a bit cooler, also breezy with a developing onshore flow. Depending on how the remnants of Ian track, showers may become possible as we close out the weekend."

"We’re calling for cloudy and breezy weather to start the first week of October," Dixon and Haney said. "Shower chances will depend on the eventual evolution of Ian’s remnants. With the clouds and east/northeast flow, temperatures will run below average." (Watch the WFSB 3 TV weather forecast here).

The National Weather Service said a "warm front" will approach south of Connecticut and this "front will be part of a complex low pressure system that will also have leftover tropical moisture from Ian as well as the low center of Ian itself with its extratropical transition."

The weather service said the storm will "allow for chances of rain (in southern Connecticut) as the front approaches this weekend. The front is forecast to be not too far south of Long Island, and another approaching weak low will allow for chances of rain to continue Monday into Tuesday of next week.

"Prolonged chances of rain are in the forecast, and this along with the easterly flow will make for cooler than normal temperatures this weekend into early next week. There is still uncertainty with the forecast so exact timing of rainfall and total amount, especially with start and end times of rain will probably change with subsequent forecasts," the weather service said concerning southern Connecticut.

In northern parts of the state, the weather service said, "Overall a quiet stretch of weather through the weekend, with the only potential hiccup being the remnants of Hurricane Ian making their way north by Sunday/Monday." Currently, the weather service forecasts that the "remnant moisture" from Ian will stay just south of northern sections of Connecticut.

"Our next shot at rain comes Monday night or Tuesday with the arrival of a mid level shortwave and surface low passing offshore," the weather service said concerning northern sections of the state. (You can also follow live updates in Florida via Accuweather.com.)
