NEW BRITAIN, CT — The CIAC Class MM state championship track and field meet Tuesday in Veterans Stadium at Willow Brook Park produced two of the three closest finishes of the 10 state titles up for grabs since Sunday. In the end, both champions from 2024 successfully defended their titles - but it wasn't easy.

It took until the final event of the evening to determine a boys' champion, with Daniel Hand narrowly edging Bethel by a half-point, 103-102.5. The margin was a big more comfortable on the girls' side, as Hillhouse won its second straight crown with 94 points, with Mercy's 79 taking second place.

Sarah Roberts of Mercy captured three individual event championships throughout the day, in the 800, 1600 and 3200. Dual winners were Luke Richardson, Bethel (100, 200), Micheal Ahoua, Torrington (high jump, long jump), Thomas Matlock, East Lyme (discus, shot put), Destini Reid, Hillhouse (100, 200) and Phoebe Cora Smith, Joel Barlow (100 hurdles, 300 hurdles).
