Man Dead After Being Struck By Dump Truck In Bloomfield

Police said the driver is cooperating with the investigation.

BLOOMFIELD, CT — A person died Wednesday after being struck by a dump truck on Woodland Avenue in Bloomfield, police said.

Dispatchers received a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle on Woodland Avenue at West Newberry Road around 6:20 a.m. First responders arrived to find a man unresponsive and seriously injured. He was later pronounced dead at the scene by EMS, according to a news release from Bloomfield police.

His name is being withheld while officers notify next of kin.

During their investigation, police said they determined the vehicle involved in the wreck was an International 2000-series dump truck. They located it a short distance away near Woodland and Wintonbury Avenues in Bloomfield.

The driver told investigators that he was unaware he had struck a pedestrian and is now cooperating with the police. No charges had been filed as of Wednesday evening, police said.
