New Tax Refund Scam Circulating On Cellphones In Connecticut, Officials Warn
There's a new scam about tax refunds making the rounds in Connecticut, state officials said Thursday.
CONNECTICUT — A new tax refund scam is circulating in Connecticut, state officials said.
The Connecticut Department of Revenue Services Thursday sent out an alert to taxpayers regarding the new scam — that impersonates the DRS by sending "fraudulent text messages" about pending refunds.
The scam reads:

As shown, the texts fraudulently claim that a resident is owed a tax refund from the DRS and requires the taxpayer to provide banking and other information in order to receive the refund, state officials said.

"The DRS will never send taxpayers a text message or seek to obtain information from taxpayers via text. Anyone who has information regarding a tax-related scam is urged to contact DRS by completing a referral form on the agency’s website," state officials said.
