Picture Connecticut: A Snow Sports Icon

CORNWALL, CT — Let's start off 2025 with a classic look at an iconic part of northwest Connecticut — and the snow sports industry.

It's a look at the classic and popular main lodge at Mohawk Mountain, as seen from a spot adjacent to the Deer Run Triple Chair.

Mohawk is famous for its old-school charm, instilled by founder Walt Schoenknecht, who opened the mountain for skiing in 1947. Part of that feeling has never left the lodge.

Schoenknecht revolutionized modern skiing when he helped create the first snowmaking machine in 1950.
