PLAINVILLE, CT — A long-time law enforcement officer, Lt. John Quilter, passed away over the weekend, and area police have been posting tributes in his honor.

“I considered him a friend,” Vanghele said. “He was supremely dedicated to his wife, kids, family, country, friends, police department and the community of Plainville. A good man was taken from us, way too early. He will be missed every day.”
Quilter, 49, started his 25-year career at the Plainville Police Department in 1999, and he retired in December, according to his obituary. In recent years, he also worked as a realtor. He was born in Bristol and graduated from Bristol Central High School. Prior to becoming a police officer, he served in the U.S. Army.
The Bristol and Southington police departments were among those extending their condolences on Facebook.
“Words cannot fully express the sorrow we feel as we stand with you during this incredibly difficult time,” the Southington police post said.
