Ashley Baylor, a meteorologist at WTNH-TV since 2019, announced Wednesday on the Chaz & AJ show on WPLR that she's leaving the New Haven-based news station for a move south.

Baylor said that she's moving to Florida in the near future, where she will be forecasting the weather for The Villages, a massive retirement community in Central Florida. The Laurel was the first to report the news.

She will be The Villages first full-time weather person; in her spare time, she's been running an Instagram page called WeatherinTheVillages, where she provides weather.

Many of her Connecticut fans are taking the news hard.

"Please God say it isn't so," one fan wrote in the comments on Baylor's Facebook page. "Ashley, I'm completely devastated that you're moving south, but at least you'll be with your family. Connecticut has lost their best meteorologist and an amazing human being. All the best, now I have to go get my Kleenex."

Another added, "Ashley, so sorry to see your leaving us. I remember when you joined the team, and you just seemed to fit in right away. You always stay true to yourself and handle it with class. Except for the Patriot thing. God bless you on all of your life’s journeys."

Baylor said that she's looking forward to the move, in part because she finds a lot "serenity" in Florida.

"You know what I like about down there is they really don't put the negative stories at the top," she said. "They bury the negative stories. They do everything that's positive, everything that's lifestyle... here's what's going on today, here's what happened yesterday, but they're all good stories. And I think that's a nice turn of events, compared to the last 20 years that I've been doing this, where it's always negative stories that lead.

"So to make that pivot, and have something that's positive, something that's good, I think that's going to be good for my soul, to be honest with you."
