Putnam Man Accused Of Threatening Town Employees: Police

Police were alerted on Monday to social media posts they described as "alarming."

PUTNAM, CT – A Putnam man is accused of threatening violence against town employees via his social media posts.

Police on Monday charged Brian A. Sergel, 41, of 491 Church St., with first-degree threatening and second-degree breach of peace.

A town employee alerted police at 4:30 p.m. on Monday about “alarming posts” on social media, according to police.

“The recent social media posts made by the accused threatened to commit acts of violence with a firearm at the Putnam Municipal Complex and against the employees,” police said.

Police arrested Sergel without incident around 7 p.m. Monday. He was arraigned Tuesday in Superior Court in Danielson, and his case was continued to Feb. 26.
