Sale Price Of Tennis Great's CT Mansion Sets New Record

CONNECTICUT — Tennis great Ivan Lendl has sold his 445-acre Connecticut estate for $12 million, breaking real estate price records for Litchfield County, according to Mansion Global.

The deal, which closed on Thursday, inched out the previous record-holder by just over a half million dollars.

But the final sale for the Cornwall residence was a bit of a come-down from its original listing of $25 million in 2005. The high-end-home industry trade site said the asking price tumbled numerous times, most recently to $14.995 million.

What's all that topspin get you in the heart of the Litchfield Hills? In addition to the obvious amenities of a tennis court, locker rooms, sauna, workout room and a full-sized gym, the estate boasts a six-stall horse paddocks, equestrian facilities, and a three-bedroom caretaker’s cottage, according to the listing.

Inside is 18,000 square feet and 20 rooms of architect Allan Greenberg-designed space, with 10 bedrooms, 12 full bathrooms and three partial bedrooms. The mansion was custom-built for Lendl in 1992.

Lendl, 63, retired from professional tennis in 1994. The Czech-American athlete was ranked No. 1 in the world in singles for a then-record 270 weeks and won 94 singles titles. He holds eight Grand Slam singles titles and was runner-up 11 times, making him the first man to contest 19 major finals.
