Wesolowski told police he was walking in the woods and lost his flashlight and shirt, police said. He denied being near the school.
Troopers noticed an unsecured window on the school property and detained and searched Wesolowski.
Police said he had two types of prescription medication in his pockets which weren’t prescribed to him.
During a search of the school, troopers noticed there was recently consumed food in the kitchen. They found additional food waste, writing utensils and a single black sock at the front entrance of the Nepaug Fire Department surrounding a lawn chair.
Troopers again asked Wesolowski if he had been at the elementary school. At this point, police said he admitted entering the school through a window and taking food, drinks, pens and the folding lawn chair.
Wesolowski, who is free on $5,000 bond, is due to appear in Superior Court in Torrington on Oct. 14.
