Team, Individual Champions Crowned At Cross Country Divisional Races
Xavier won the Class L boys title for the sixth straight season, while Haddam-Killingworth swept girls' and boys' team titles in Class SS.

MANCHESTER, CT — On a day described by the National Weather Service as "refreshingly cool," with the high temperature only reaching 61 degrees, thousands of high school runners flocked to Wickham Park for the CIAC divisional cross country championships.
A dozen team and individual champions were crowned, and with one exception, each winning squad captured their school's fifth divisional title or more. The exception was the Rocky Hill boys, who won the Class M title a year after claiming the Class SS championship. Girls' teams winning for the second straight year after moving up in class were Mercy and New Fairfield.
Xavier won the Class L boys title for the sixth straight year, giving the Falcons 24 divisional championships on top of 13 State Opens. The New Fairfield girls and East Lyme boys each won their third straight titles, and back-to-back championships in the same division were posted by the girls from Greenwich and New Canaan.

For the fourth time since 2015, Haddam-Killingworth claimed both the boys' and girls' championships in Class SS.
Hundreds of competitors will return to tackle "The Green Monster" at Wickham Park again Thursday at the State Open. With an unseasonably warm forecast of 80 degrees, CIAC and race officials have moved the starting times up from their traditional mid-afternoon slots. The boys' race will begin at 10 a.m., and the girls will follow at 10:45.
