These 2 CT Highways Named Among America's 'Most Loathed'

Which traffic-clogged roads do drivers consider the worst in the state and among the worst in the country? A recent survey has the answer.

ACROSS CONNECTICUT — It's no surprise that on the list of "America's Most Loathed Highways" two Connecticut roads made the cut. I-95 and I-84 received the dubious honor in the rankings from Gunther Volvo Cars.

The only surprise may be that the constantly gridlocked I-95 didn't come in higher, ranking as No. 11 on the list. The list of the country's top 100 most loathed roads was derived from a survey of 3,000 drivers.

"This interstate (I-95), especially the stretch through the southwestern part of the state (like around Stamford and Bridgeport), is notorious for traffic congestion," the report noted.

I-84 ranked No. 26 on the list. The report noted that around Hartford, this road can be especially congested.

Perhaps the next time you're staring at brake lights on I-95 or I-84 during rush hour, you can take solace that at least you're not on one of California's even more congested highways.

California's US-101 was No. 1, or dead last, depending on your perspective. The rankings noted that particularly in San Francisco and Los Angeles, the highway is "recognized for its significant traffic congestion and frequent bottlenecks."

California also claimed the second and third spots on the list with I-5 and I-405.

New England was well represented, too. I-93 in Massachusetts was No. 35. "Especially in and around Boston, this interstate often sees traffic jams," the report noted.

I-95 was popular on the list in New England. It appears again in New Hampshire, ranking No. 24, in Rhode Island at No. 41, and in Maine, at No. 27, which was noted for its heavy seasonal traffic.

Rhode Island's I-195 came in at No. 17, and US 1 in Maine ranked No. 48.
