CONNECTICUT — More than 6,000 Connecticut residents are still without power Thursday morning as a strong storm barreled through in the overnight hours. There are also several closures and reported delays on major roads across the state too. (See below for more details).

"We've restored ~23,000 customers since the storm started yesterday. Crews are working closely with our communities to tackle blocked roads and they’re making repairs to the electric system to bring back power to our remaining ~6,000 customers," Eversource said in a 10:45 a.m. update.

The storm brought snow, sleet, heavy rain, and strong wind gusts to Connecticut.

Eversource added that, "road conditions are slippery this morning in northern CT; the heavy, wet snow is weighing down tree limbs, and the icy roads are slick. If you do venture out, please take it slow and watch for broken branches and lines in the road, especially as you’re coming around corners."

"Our First Alert continues as a potent storm continues to churn through CT. The main concern this morning is a gusty wind and coastal flooding thru this morning’s high tide cycle. There could be some slight accumulating snow over the higher terrain," WFSB 3 TV chief meteorologist Mark Dixon with Scot Haney.

Some rain and snow showers are still forecast Thursday morning, but the precipitation should end midday.

"We’ve seen some pretty impressive wind gusts with this storm. A gust at Greenwich reached 64 mph; meanwhile Bridgeport, Groton and Kent all peaked at over 50 mph. While the wind remains up right now, it is expected to come down a little later this morning," Dixon and Haney said.

"The easterly wind direction is pushing water into Long Island Sound, leading to coastal flooding along the shoreline. Additional flooding is possible during this morning high tide cycle. There’s even the chance for some snow showers this morning, as colder air is drawn into CT as the wind switches to out of the north. Accumulations appear minor and confined to highest elevations of NW CT. Regardless, it will be raw again today with highs ranging from the upper 30s to lower 40s. It will feel even chillier with the wind. Scattered rain or snow showers today are most likely this morning; otherwise, it’s a cloudy day. While breezy, it won’t be *as* windy," Dixon and Haney said. A special weather statement has been issued for northern Connecticut by the National Weather Service. "Sleet combined with temperatures in the low 30s could cause some slippery road conditions overnight into Thursday morning. Motorists and pedestrians should exercise caution if heading out on the roadway overnight as untreated surfaces may become slick."

A coastal flood warning has been issued for coastal sections of Fairfield, New Haven, Middlesex, and New London counties until 10 a.m. "The combination of heavy rain, runoff and elevated water levels this evening and early Thursday morning may cause localized flash flooding along some shoreline roads and properties."
