CT Weather: Strong Storm Forecast To Generate Thunderstorms, 50 MPH Wind Gusts On Friday
A strong storm will deliver significant impacts on Connecticut. Here is the updated timeline and what to expect.
Downpours, high wind gusts and even thunderstorms are in Connecticut’s forecast this week, according to meteorologists.
Wednesday and Thursday are like the calm before the storm, with dry weather and daytime highs reaching into the upper 40s.
But a storm system is expected to impact the state starting overnight Thursday, when the rain will begin, according to WFSB.

“The wind will also intensify... gusts between 40 and 50 mph look likely by Friday morning,” WFSB reports.

WFSB is calling Friday a “First Alert Weather Day,” as it anticipates there will be downpours and thunderstorms, which will impact travel.
“Visibility will be affected and ponding on roadways is expected. Also, isolated outages will be possible,” WFSB reports.
Big temperature warmup
It is also going to be very warm on Friday, with temperatures reaching into the 50s, according to WFSB and the National Weather Service.
The temperatures on Friday could even break records, as WFSB reports the record for the Hartford Area is 54 degrees and Bridgeport’s record is 57. Friday afternoon is expected to continue to be very windy, with gusts up to 40 miles per hour, and total rainfall by the time the system passes could exceed an inch, according to WFSB.
The National Weather Service in Boston is forecasting a period of “locally heavy rainfall, strong to damaging wind gusts and unseasonably mild temperatures” late Thursday night and lasting into early Friday afternoon. It will gradually dry out Friday afternoon, then colder air will arrive Friday night, when temperatures will dip into the 20s.

The weekend outlook is for dry weather and more seasonable temperatures, with highs reaching into the 40s on Saturday and Sunday, according to the National Weather Service.

Tonight: Mostly clear, with a low around 22. West wind around 6 mph becoming calm after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 22 mph.
Thursday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 49. Calm wind becoming south 5 to 8 mph in the afternoon.
Thursday Night: Rain, mainly after midnight. Low around 37. South wind 7 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 32 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
