Toddler Revived After Ingesting Fentanyl At Park: Reports

NEW BRITAIN, CT — A 1-year-old child needed Narcan after he put a plastic bag that was found at Martha Hart Park in his mouth, and the bag likely contained fentanyl, according to a report by NBC Connecticut.

The incident occurred on July 14 and the child suffered a severe reaction. State officials said the boy survived due to the Narcan.

Officials stressed that the child's caregiver, who was present and nearby, is not suspected of bringing the drugs to the park, NBC CT reported. It's unclear who left the suspected drugs behind.

The Office of the Child Advocate told NBC CT that this is a very "scary incident," while adding, "That’s the story here-just a kid in a park put at risk."

State officials told WTNH News 8 that since 2020 12 children under the age of 3 have died from ingesting fentanyl. Additionally, two young children were exposed to fentanyl in public places.
