Torrington Security Officer Discharges Firearm Inside Elementary School: Police
The incident happened early Tuesday before students arrived, according to police.
TORRINGTON, CT — An armed school security officer discharged a firearm inside the Torringford Elementary School Tuesday morning, according to police.
No one was injured, and the incident happened before any students arrived in the building, police said.
School staff immediately notified police, who responded to the school to investigate.

“Police and school administrators agreed there was no danger to the students or staff, and the school day commenced as normal,” police said, in a press release Tuesday.
The security guard, who police did not identify, is cooperating with the ongoing investigation, police said.

Armed security guards are employees of the Board of Education, and they are authorized to carry firearms in the school, according to police.
Police declined to comment further on the case, citing the open investigation.
“The school district and the police department are in constant communication, and we take both student and staff safety very seriously,” police said.
Torrington Superintendent of Schools Michael Wilson, when reached Tuesday afternoon, did not provide additional information beyond what police shared, noting the matter is still under investigation.
