Troopers Investigate Fatal Motor Vehicle Crash in New Fairfield

Police are seeking witnesses to the crash, which killed one woman and injured three teens Monday.

A New York woman was killed and three teens were injured in a head-on collision Monday night in New Fairfield.

State police said the crash happened on Ball Pond Road at 9:28 p.m.

Diane Staab, 62, of Mahopac, New York, who was driving a Jeep Compass southbound on Ball Pond Road, was pronounced dead on scene, according to police.

The other vehicle, a Hyundai Palisade, was operated by a 17-year-old New Fairfield resident, who had been traveling northbound.

The teen driver and his two male teen passengers were transported to Danbury Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries, according to police.

Police indicated in an accident report that the two vehicles collided head-on for an “unknown reason” just north of the intersection with Harvest Road.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
